hmm, try doing a disk repair with OSX's disk utility software. Sometimes "Repairing the Permissions" can solve an error like this. Very strange though. If it was a PC, i would say defragment your harddrives. It's possible that the computer is having trouble streaming the audio clips. Maybe your harddrive is nearing capacity?

if possible, double check your source audio for the clips to make sure that those files are still in tact and can play on their own in itunes or the Finder preview pane.

    Hi, Stephen!
it sounds to me like your samples may have been corrupted... can you re-sample (re-create the samples)?
    good luck, bro!

Also, try "zapping your p-ram". this is done by shutting your machine off, then starting it back up holding down the P and R keys, and also the option and command keys at the same time. wait until you hear the startup tone twice, then release the keys.

this clears out the memory cache, and sometimes takes care of all sorts of problems. you might also want to check your Ableton prefs under latency- sometimes this resets by itself, and causes those "gak gak gak" glitch sounds, static, or drop outs....

you should have more than enough machine for the job, but a ext. souncard will reduce load and make things sound a lot better, and may help with your problem as well.

I cannot stress the degree to which Zander is right.
I used to have similar random glitches, completely unrelated to cpu usage, and "zapping" (ie resetting) the p-rom (and, I believe, the v-rom as well), often solves the problem.
After I discovered this, I got into the habit of P/R/option/Command rebooting before every single show. It's made a world of difference.

This one go's under the "you have got to be kidding" catagory.....

I had a very similar problem to yours., and attempted to solve it using any means that i could- it was
driving me nuts! while using ableton 6 in the clip view to trigger off samples and such, it would just not play on certain times during the performance. What made it worse was that the tracks that cut out would change, with the end result a piece with swiss cheese like gaps throughout.....

I finally figured it out one morning when I noticed that the file opened up in the "arrange" window- just after my cat had jumped off of the mixing desk. It seems that the cat was using the laptop as his heating pad, and had hit numerous buttons that controlled track automation. Looking back, i may of hit a few myself after a "long night" mixing.....
