This may seem obvious, but can you use a usb hub with midi controllers? Are there any problems with doing so? I'm about to switch from a Firewire audio out to a usb one, and I'm also running two usb midi controllers, so I need to know if I'm asking for trouble since I only have two usb ports on my computer.

I've had this problem while using a USB hub with my M-Audio Trigger Finger and O2 in Live - I had a USB wireless mouse and it kills the mouse functionality when I fire up Live and it senses the USB MIDI controllers...it may just be a cheap hub though...I definitely wouldn't advise using the USB audio interface on the hub though - plug that directly into your USB port. -

There are some things that don't work at all on a hub - like the Virus TI.
Also know that the hub will only be as fast as the slowest USB connection. So 2.0 USB will be slower if slower devices are in the chain.

Fri, May 23, 2008 - 11:37 AMI think this is really dependent on the hub and the controllers. My experience with hubs has been that some devices work fine through them, and others don't. Then again, I've stayed away from hubs because of that. I haven't used one in years. They may have improved since then. -

Fri, May 23, 2008 - 12:04 PMI have 2HD's, 2 midi controllers, a flash drive, and a trackball. I usually don't need to use everything at once, so I hot swap with 4 ports.
