Audio & Midi Recorded offset

I'm a huge Live fan & user but i have one issue i can't get my head around.
I know this topic has been discussed to some degree. Has it just become commonly accepted that anything you record & monitor is out of time with what you originally played?

For those unaware

Example's =
If you plug in any live input (Bass, vocal mic, midi keyboard, anything) Hit play, & start recording you will not be recording what your playing to the music but the delayed output based on your latency settings. This is fine for software monitoring you can't get around that. But for the actual audio&midi that gets recorded should be compensated.

There is a PITA is a workaround.
Tracks record in time if you turn off the monitoring for that track.
So you need to make 2 tracks for every live input.

One to be the record track.
One to be the monitor source or VSTi track.

Turn the monitor off on the record track and route the signal to the monitor track.

I wish this delay was compensated like most other hosts.

This is fixable. It requires running a direct source from your I/O output into the in and playing a sample through Live then adjusting the "sample latency offset" in the preferences window. I believe that Live comes with a little orientation project file that is setup to adjust for I/O latency optimization.

    Hope that helps.

That only fixes the audio in offset Doesn't cure the midi. That is untile the nest time you change your buffer settings.
      Do this test.
Create 2 Midi tracks both with the same input. Turn press the monitor "off" button. Record some midi notes to both tracks at once. Now compare the offset. =/ Not good

Why are you needing to record 2 MIDI tracks at once?

I can't attest to other DAWs but I've never seen the reason to record two MIDI tracks at once with the same information - duplication of the track is much easier. Of course, I also don't use things like v-drums which would be the only reason I could think of needing multi MIDI tracks recording at once. That is peculiar though now that I've tried your little test. Perhaps record quantization might help...I'll investigate this a bit more and see what I can come up with...

I just tried record quantization and it worked. I'm not sure if it will work with your setup, but give it a shot.

My 2 midi track test is to show how the one with monitor on is delayed.
The one with monitor off is the correct timing.

The only way to safely record is to turn monitoring off on any record enabled tracks & route that output to another track to monitor.
