What monitors do you use?
What is a good brand, medium priced that will reproduce crisp clear sound? I just need it to finish off mixes so I can take them to a studio to master properly. Currently I own a pair of Behringer MS10, which are small, are quite clear though, but are missing important low frequencies. They're not horrible, but the sound is cheap, just as their price, and I need new speakers..

Re: Mastering Monitors
Mon, May 11, 2009 - 7:30 PMlook at the krks -- they are pretty universally praised and are in the $400-600 range. you should probably be looking at something with at least a 5" woofer. i can't find the specs for the ms 10, but the ms-20s are 3 5/8" -- way too small to get the bass you're looking for. here's a link to guitar center (a good reference point, price-wise) with the selection: www.guitarcenter.com/Search/Default.aspx be aware that anything under $300 is probably a price for EACH speaker...

Re: Mastering Monitors
Mon, May 11, 2009 - 11:42 PMI was on a hunt for mid priced monitors and tested out the krk rockit 8's, mackie mr8's, and the Yamaha HS80M's and I ended up going for the Yamahas.
Out of all of those they seemed to have the most crisp, detailed high end and nice low bass response. The krk's have a bit of a non pleasing mid range harshness to them while the Mackie's just sounded kind of muddy.
For the price range , I highly recommend the yamahs.

Re: Mastering Monitors
Tue, May 12, 2009 - 10:00 AMI'm using and totally the loving the JBL LSR4328P's, which I think are on par with the Genelec 8040's or the Adam A7's, but slightly less expensive.
JBL, Genelec and Adam have all recently released some more affordable monitors, too (LSR2325's, 8030's & A5's).

Re: Mastering Monitors
Wed, May 13, 2009 - 4:00 PM...And yes, of course there are the Adam's, Genelec's, Dynaudio's, etc. But those are all higher price bracket monitors. Even the smallest ones.
From what I've researched, the Adams and their ribbon tweater technology are supposed to sound superior to the Highly praised Genelec's.
Actually there is a lower price bracket pair of smaller Adam's that I tested a while back and although they did have excelent crystal clear highs, they had almost no bass response. So I think larger ones would be the way to go. But you'd be spending upwards of 3000 dollars as well. -

Re: Mastering Monitors
Thu, May 14, 2009 - 8:58 AMActually, you can get a pair of the newest (and smallest) Adam A5's with the Adam Sub 7 (to enhance the bass response) for about $1,490.00 from Sweetwater....wait...shit...I should've done that!
That's a really dope setup. -

Re: Mastering Monitors
Sat, May 16, 2009 - 5:15 AMI love my Event monitors. Can't get enough of them. Was reading a monitor review in Future Music Magazine and they scored a 9 out of 10 (fyi - no manufacturers got a 10 - one other pair got a 9 but they were hundreds of dollars more than the list on the Events). -
