So I've been playing around with my Xio synth and 2 programs--Massive and Tassman 4. The presets for these interfaces are amazing, but I cant record the midi sequences with Acid 6 or Live 6. I have a feeling Acid may be easier, so either technique will work for me if you know. All I want to do is record a sequence I play through Massive or Tassman, save it, and open it up in Sound Forge. The first time tried with Acid I was able to record the sequence, but when I played it back, the notes were basic notes from the Novation Xio. I have followed detailed instructions for Live6, but I am unable to record the sequences......really driving me nuts.... Can anyone throw up some useful links or step by step directions for either one of these, please????
Peace out.
E
Peace out.

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 9:46 PMIf you are not getting any midi info recorded then something funny is definitely going on. Are you able to trigger sounds via the XIO synth with Massive as a plug in on a midi track? If you are you should be able to just click on the clip button and go to town in the session view. Have you recorded anything in the session view? If you are in arrangement view you will have to hit the "record" button at the top of the screen as well as having your track armed to record to record midi tracks in arrangement.

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 7:33 AMTo record MIDI with Live:
1. Drop your synth in the MIDI track.
2. Set the Monitor to In on the mixer.
3. Play notes. You should hear them as you play them.
4. Click the record button on the mixer for the MIDI track to arm recording.
At this point you can record to a clip or directly in the arrangement view (timeline)
To record to a clip:
5. Click the record button in the slot you wish to record to arm that pattern for recording.
6. Play your sequence and press the Stop button when you're done.
To record to the arrangement view:
5. Click the master record button at the top of the window.
6. Click the Play button and play out your sequence. Hit Stop to finish recording.
7. After you've pressed Stop, set the monitor to Auto or Off in the mixer channel you just recorded into.
Voila!
Alternately, you can leave the monitor set to Auto, but you won't hear the notes you're playing unless you are actively recording. -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 9:19 AMYeah...lol
Looks like you took it a step further with the record to audio part though. I'm too lazy to do it that way most of the time. When CPU becomes an issue I just freeze the tracks. -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 8:33 PMCraig---how do I drag Massive into the midi track?? It doesn't show up under instruments. I don't have a problem recording using Simpler, which is Abletons built in instrument. It's the external synths, Massive , Tassman, and a few others I'm having issues with...... -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 8:48 PMYou should be able to find them with the "plug" button that will be under the ableton "devices" button. Click on it and your VSTs and AUs should appear in your browser. -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 10:27 PMThanks Don, for trying. I have done everything, I think. I still cannot hear any audio. The messed up thing is -----if I open massive by itself, l can hear it. When l open up massive through Live, I hear nothing. -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 7:41 AMDo any other synths generate audio from a MIDI track or is Massive the only one not working?
What about if you program a few notes into a clip? (as opposed to playing them on a keyboard)
Do you see the MIDI activity indicator (in the mixer area for the MIDI track) doing anything when you press a key?
If no synths make sound, check the I/O section for the MIDI track (should be outputting to master) and check the master output is going to the right outputs on your soundcard. If programmed notes play, but not notes from your keyboard, or if no MIDI activity is being received, check the preferences to make sure your MIDI device is recognized.
Lastly, strange things often happen with no logical explanation when using a cracked version of Live. If your copy is cracked, you're probably just plain out of luck.

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 1:16 PMVST/AUs do not require rewire. Load them as a VST/AU.
Drag and drop all the way. -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 8:53 AMThe problem was a simple one, overlooked by myself. Every time I open Live, I need to check audio under preferences and make sure the audio device is the correct ASIO driver. It tends to change on it's own whenever it feels like. I still cannot play the midi back in sound forge. I render to disc and it says it's saving.....then it says ASIO failed. Sounds like a software malfunction to me..... -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 10:24 PMWell.....Sound Forge is an Audio Application. It can work with midi but I am not sure how you are trying to work with midi in it. Are you trying to work with a midi file you rendered as audio in Ableton? What specifically are you trying to do? -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 4:51 AMI'm trying to match my MIDI sequences with my drum loops. When I do this live, there is a delay which throws everything off. Is there a simple way to get these to sync automatically?? It has something to do w/ gain and release l think....when I tap any one key on the Novation. The resulting audio I hear is never as complex as the way I tapped it in on the key I also want to save the MIDI sequence as a .wav audio file and manipulate that in Sound Forge. -

Re: How do I record midi sequences with Live 6??
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 5:18 PMYou should be able to right click on your midi clip and select "render to disc" from the dropdown menu. Rename the file as well so it is easy to find and select when you open SF. I have kind of noticed the same thing when I try to record some midi sequences. I get around this by setting my loop lengths and either recording another pass.....copy and pasting additional notes...and adding notes by hand sometimes until I'm happy with it.
