Buttons 9 through 16 (under the top row of knobs and above the bottom row of knobs on the left side) are supposed to be open for midi mapping in the Ableton Live Auto Template (40), but they are very quarky for me:
I've been trying to map them as EQ kills for L M and H on EQ3's in my audio tracks. But after I map it, here is what happens: I press the button once and it turns the EQ range OFF, but when I press the button again, the range doesn't turn back ON. If I fiddle with the #'s within the mapping setting (i.e. 0 /127, or 64/127 etc) I can get it to do the opposite - turn on but not off, or I can get it to kill as long as I hold down the button, but never just OFF then ON.
Oddly enough it works perfectly if I try mapping to a key on the keyboard. Press once to turn OFF, press again to turn back ON. But I really want to be able to use buttons 9 through 16, otherwise it's just a waste of space.
Anybody have any ideas?
cheers,

Re: Remote SL 25 buttons 9 thru 16 in Automap
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 9:19 PM...I don't have the exact answer, right on hand... but, I seem to remember that we can program each button/pad/knob to 'toggle'... -

Thanks!

Re: Remote SL 25 buttons 9 thru 16 in Automap
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 7:51 PMThat toggle function is great in Live. Here's a tip that can help you with other DAW's and if you are MIDI controlling another hardware device...
In almost every programmable MIDI controller, there is an option where you can change the MIDI values sent by a single button/key/pad for each time it is pressed. This is referred to on most controllers as "data min" and "data max." Refer to your manual for your own specific controller terms. In this case, lets say you want button A to send a command to your Nord Lead to make it bypass it's filter. Now with your Nord Lead if you send a value of 127 to CC 55, then it will turn the filter on. (these numbers are from the depths of my bowels...refer to it's manual for what MIDI CC operates what parameter) On your controller you make button A send CC 55, but it will only turn the filter on and will not turn it off. What you have to do is set the "data min" value for button A to 0, and set the "data max" to 127. This will make it so when you press button A it will send value 0 to CC55, and press it again to send value 127 to CC55, and again to send 0...etc.
Live lets you do this within the Live environment, but other DAW's like Logic act more like hardware in that you have to manipulate the controller instead of the software. At least that was the case in Logic 7, I haven't tried it with 8.
YAY MIDI. =P
