Hey everybody. I have Live 6 LE. My problem is I can't drag and drop itunes into Live session mode. In fact, I can't even access itunes from my browser. Is this a common problem and, if so, is there any way around it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: itunes troubles
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 7:35 PMAre you sure your conversion is MP3? I ran into something like that using I Tunes other format-AAC encoder. It can be set in edit>preferences... -

Re: itunes troubles
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 8:40 PMif you bought your music from itunes you are more than likely skrewed. they have that encoding that ony allows 7 burns with the proprietary mac software. I may be outdated in my info because after it did it to me, I quit buying from itunes (saving hella amounts of cash), and the drag/ drop problem you described went away...no probs. There are thousands of other sits that offer current product for 10-20 cents a song....at 320 quality... -

Re: itunes troubles
Sun, March 23, 2008 - 8:54 PMBeatport is also great for finding DJable tracks.

WHERE!? I've been paying $1.50-$2.50 a track on Beatport for 320s! -

Re: itunes troubles
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 5:07 AMmy guess is *russia.* if the site url ends in .ru it's russia and you can bet the artist is probably seeing NONE of that money. artists don't usually get much from i-tunes either (unless they're non-major label) but at least the record label can't sue you. -

Re: itunes troubles
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 6:00 AMoi! if they are from Russia they are definitely pirated. I sent several months living in Russia about eight years ago - and every corner had kiosks with CDs and tapes - all bootlegged - it's no surprise if that's carried over to the digital domain...bummer. a "licensed" CD in rubles is about equivalent to $20 US so the bootleg market was quite a big thing for your average citizen making $500 a month if they're lucky.
i'm a big fan of Snocap and Beatport - Addictech, too. I hope that at least Beatport and Addictech labels are getting a good amount of the money back to the artists...

Re: itunes troubles
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 7:18 AMemusic is about $0.25 per track and it's not a pirate site. Depending on what you DJ, you can find some good stuff there. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: emusic
Mon, March 24, 2008 - 6:49 PMhow can they do that? i'm not doubting the veracity of your comment, craig, just kinda shocked. -

Re: emusic
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 1:46 PMwas it determined that the purchasing of I tunes product was what was causing Ember's problem? Seems we got a bit sidetracked here...

Re: emusic
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 1:51 PMSo it sounds like itunes is a no go. Bummer. I have purchased so many tracks from them. I have been using beatport and stompy for years but a lot of weird experimental stuff I like to mash in simply isn't there–not to mention old obscure 60's and 70's art rock. Maybe Napster would work... -

Re: emusic
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 2:10 PMWhoa, iTunes allows limited burns? what if you burn it and rip it back in? -
-
Re: emusic
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 2:15 PMyea, itunes says you can only burn six times. i just found a site that explains how to convert itunes to mp3:
"Converting Protected Audio - Burn the audio file onto a blank disk or onto a CD emulator. Note that you will need to burn an audio disk, and not a data disk. Launch iTunes with the CD in the drive, and rip the track into your iTunes library by right-clicking the track that you wish to convert and selecting "Convert Selection to MP3."
If I do this, will the sound quality be diminished? -
-
Re: emusic
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 2:37 PMYes. MP3 are bad quality sound files no matter how you look at it...especially on a good system at loud volumes.
-
Re: emusic
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 2:39 PMEvery time a file is converted in any way you will experience a slight decrease in quality, and it is wholly dependent upon how files are decoded and encoded. I would personally suggest minimizing the loss by importing at 320kbps mp3 or a lossless format (if you have plenty of drive space). Bear in mind that the loss may not be audible, but each time you subsequently convert the file there is further loss.
** Opinion/religion Alert **..... m4a files aren't as high quality as mp3, but using PlatinumNotes cleans them up nicely. I say that because the Redbook spec on AAC compression is better than mp3, but Apple compresses the hell out of tracks sold on iTunes to optimize them for the iPod regardless of what the consumer plans on using them for. Apple lossless is certainly high quality, but otherwise I have been disappointed with m4a compression, at least in terms of how the Quicktime engine decodes the file when they're imported into Live. Again, it's just my opinion/religion which I steadfastly refuse to give any supporting data on in the event that it threatens my stated position. -

Re: emusic
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 2:24 PMBurning and ripping back in works.
It seems like every track I want from iTunes is DRM, the "Plus" (or something like that) seems to only be stuff like the Carpenters and shit. On the plus side my dub remix of "We've Only Just Begun" is coming along nicely... I'm kidding, but still...

Tue, March 25, 2008 - 2:43 PMEmber - give Amazon a shot for things you can't find elsewhere. I have found some surprisingly obscure tracks available for download from Amazon. Someone there seems to have intriguing and eclectic tastes. -

Any audio your computer can play, Audio Hijack Pro can turn into a format you can play with.
In this case, Source=itunes, output=24bit aiff stereo would be one configuration. -
