I have recently been doing tag-team sets with a friend of mine who spins vinyl. When I've been beatmatching with him, I've discovered that Live doesn't have a "pause" button - the equivalent of just putting your hand on the record and stopping it. Am I right? Did they leave this off of Live, or am I just ignorant of the location of this rather important feature?

Re: "Pause" button?
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 8:13 AMThere is no spoon- uh... pause button. There is stop playback (spacebar) and resume from current location (shift-spacebar), and with Control Aid you can translate the keystrokes to MIDI and assign the functions to buttons.

Re: "Pause" button?
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 8:30 AMIf you have USB ports to spare, you can also use something like the ShuittlePro or ShuttleExpress, and assign commonly used keystrokes to the buttons. I've used the ShuttleExpress, with the wheel for um *cough* jogging. And stuff.

Along those lines there's also the Griffin Powermate, which is a jog wheel and bigdamnbutton that glows blue. There ain't no finer drama than rockin' out like there ain't no tomorrow into a big-ass buildup, reaching the moment of absolute climax, then bringin' your fappin' hand down on the bigdamnbutton like your slappin' the ass of a trance DJ's girlfriend. Give the girlies a "look at me and my gear penis" wink, then dramatically lift your hand as the dancefloor erupts in a ZOMG frenzy. You MUST use your fappin' hand. It's in the manual.

Or use the keyboard, nbd.

Re: "Pause" button?
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 11:24 AMha! you're forkin' hilarious, rev...
I've got a tip, too... what comes to mind is having the default launch of your clips set to 'toggle'... which should let you start the clip back where you stopped it... as long as you're not using the spacebar...

Re: "Pause" button?
Sat, June 7, 2008 - 3:02 PMNow, for that lovely effect one would have to assign the Powermate to a HPF, with the knob set to frequency, and the on/off being the button?
It seems like "jog" would be a waste of such a lovely piece of gear, no?
Great - you know the gear rampage I've been on lately, and now you send me this tinkertoy? Damn you! -

Re: "Pause" button?
Sat, June 7, 2008 - 3:10 PMOkay, I looked at the price and now I want it.
Has anybody noticed that you can buy 10 of them for the price of a Firefox knob bank? That's a forest of glowing silver and blue mushrooms of control...just sayin'...
I know USB mice (mouses?) can be deactivated by USB hubs when used in conjunction with other USB midi controllers. Does anybody know how well the Griffin PowerMate handles hub usage? -

Re: "Pause" button?
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 2:48 AMThe other question is how well it translates keystrokes to MIDI messages. It says the software works to assign keystroke but may things require a Continuous Controller input. If the ShuttleExpress can handle midi translation...I'm so getting one. That's just beautiful. -

Re: "Pause" button?
Wed, August 20, 2008 - 4:39 PMTHe all black and no contrast is kinda lack luster. They could have at least added transparent buttons with the ability to insert tiny pieces of paper to indicate functions...... in lieu of this.... i think I am still going to buy one.
Admitted gear addict.
