If you are using it on a mac then it is suggested that you buy a powered usb hub and run it through it instead. There's a known problem with trigger fingers loosing midi connectivity in live.
I plugged my friend's trigger finger into my macbook pro and could only bang on the pads for less than a minute before the thing stopped working, causing me to have to restart live each time.

that's funny, i'm just about to buy a used one too. I'm buying one from a friend though, and i trust that if there was anything wrong w/it he would tell me. Lack of warranty would be the only thing to be concerned about, and buying this thing used is probably not gonna set you back all that much so if it stopped working, you could just get another one. When i am looking at spending more than $250 on a piece of electronic equipment, i will go for new so it's covered under warranty. Anything less than that i just consider more or less disposable.

Plug it in and make sure it reads and all controls work with midi.. Then it's just a matter of how much money you will save
